STOP WHEN THE JOB EXCEEDS YOUR TRAINING
Safety and professional disclaimer.
HVAC equipment can expose people to lethal voltage, pressure, moving parts, combustion gases, hot surfaces, refrigerants, sharp metal and building damage.
Qualified work only
Follow applicable law, licensing rules, codes, permits, employer procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, PPE rules and the exact equipment instructions. Work that can release regulated refrigerant must be performed by appropriately certified personnel; Section 608 certification requirements apply to many stationary refrigeration and air-conditioning service activities.
Never bypass a safety
Do not defeat limits, rollout switches, pressure controls, float switches, door switches, grounding, overcurrent protection or other safeties. De-energize and verify absence of voltage before touching components unless an authorized diagnostic procedure requires an energized measurement and you are trained and equipped for it.
Homeowner stop conditions
Homeowners should not open energized or combustion compartments, connect refrigerant gauges, add refrigerant, alter gas piping, test live voltage or bypass switches. Leave the area and contact the proper emergency service for gas odor, smoke, fire, carbon-monoxide alarms or immediate danger. Repeated breaker trips, burning smells, severe leaks and abnormal mechanical noise require shutdown and qualified service.
AI and calculator limits
Gauge can misunderstand incomplete facts. Calculators depend on correct inputs and assumptions. Treat outputs as screening and documentation aids—not authority to charge a system, size equipment or ductwork, condemn a component, or approve a combustion appliance without required measurements and official procedures.
